ExpensePlus® for Palm
Version 1.2.5 Upgrade
Upgrade Details
If you are a qualified registered user of ExpensePlus for Palm version 1.0.0 through 1.1.4, you can now upgrade your ExpensePlus software to version 1.2.5 for Windows users (and version 1.2.4 for Macintosh Users)
Version 1.2.x of ExpensePlus was created primarily to support users of handheld devices that are powered by Palm OS 5 (Tungsten series, and Sony Clie NX, NZ and UX series handhelds, as well as the Treo 600 smartphone). However, there are a few new features in version 1.2.x that users of any Palm powered handheld or smartphone will enjoy and appreciate:
Increased stability and robustness running on any Palm powered device, but most noticeably on devices running Palm OS version 5.x and later.- Ability to distinguish between company cars and personal autos, including separate mileage reimbursement rates and odometer readings for each car type. The reimbursement rate for a company provided car is 0.00/mile, but you can change this default irately tapping the 'rate' button in the odometer window of a mileage slip after selecting "Company Car" in that mileage slip. Personal car mileage rate defaults are still set in the "General Preferences" window as in previous versions of ExpensePlus.
- Improved formatting options of the "Lookup" feature in the Expense Slip's Details window. All names in the address book are now shown in the Lookup window.
- You can enter any portion of a company name (or last name if your address book is sorted by last name) in the "Names" field of ExpensePlus, and if that portion of the name is unique, you can highlight it and ExpensePlus will instantly return the full name, title, and/or company name into the "Names" field of the "Details" window
- Business List format in Excel now includes the Foreign amount in a separate column
- Fix of bad 'date' in the sample Excel Business List form
- Expense Report file names on the Palm now appear as the worksheet name when HotSync'ing with the ExpensePlus sample reports in Microsoft Excel
- Support for OS X and Desktop 4.0 for Mac OS X users. Click here for new features for Mac users.
- Fixes for Cash Advance formatting problems for customers living in Japan, Italy, and countries using the Russian Rubles.
- Improved formats for Excel sample files.
- ExpensePlus Serial numbers are now based on the Palm User Name instead of the hardware serial number. This eliminates the need for the ExpensePlus user to get a new serial number whenever the user changes to a new device, as long as the HotSync Palm User Name remains the same.
Upgrade Fees:
- If you download and install the Windows upgrade, the upgrade fee is $8 per user.
- If you download and install the Macintosh upgrade (Palm Desktop 4.0 only) the upgrade fee is $15. The upgrade for Mac users is slightly higher due to the many new features that were added for Mac OS X users. The Mac OS X version of ExpensePlus (version 1.1) released December, 2002 was $15. This new version 1.2 includes the version 1.1 upgrade for Mac OS X (and for Palm Desktop 4.0 for OS 9 users) as well as all the other details found in the feature list above for version 1.2. The version 1.1 upgrade from previous versions was also $15. So you're getting both the 1.1 upgrade and the 1.2 upgrade for the same price as the cost for the version 1.1 upgrade alone.
To update ExpensePlus on your Palm, do the following steps:
If you are a registered and licensed user of ExpensePlus, you will automatically be sent a serial number often within hours, but usually within 1 business day that will unlock the ExpensePlus upgrade on your handheld device.
If you no longer have your original ExpensePlus software on your desktop computer or Palm, don't worry -- the installer will install the new version anyway. You don't need to have the old version installed in order to upgrade. You will, however, get a new serial number from WalletWare when you purchase the upgrade via Handango but only if you purchased a version of ExpensePlus sometime in the past. In the future, you won't have to get a new serial number again each time you change devices as long as your Palm User Name remains the same and you continue to use version 1.2.x of ExpensePlus.
If you are upgrading, and if an older version of ExpensePlus is already installed on your Palm, DO NOT DELETE ExpensePlus from your Palm organizer before upgrading! If you do, you will lose all of your expense report data. If you accidentally do this, it is possible to restore your ExpensePlus data from your most recent backup (or from your last HotSync session). Call (918) 477-9155 if you need help restoring your expense data if you accidentally delete all of it from your Palm.
Finally, just as you would with any accounting or finance software, make sure you backup your expense data before upgrading ExpensePlus to the new version. Do a HotSync and save all your expense reports in Excel on your desktop or laptop computer before you upgrade your software.

The main reason to upgrade to version 1.2 of ExpensePlus is for Palm OS 5 compatibility (and for Mac users, OS X compatibility). Version 1.0 through 1.1 of ExpensePlus would run well on any Palm device powered by Palm OS version 4.2 and lower. However, version 1.2 of ExpensePlus is required for Palm devices running Palm OS 5.0 or higher. We have a separate detailed page that lists all the new features and bug fixes in every past version of ExpensePlus, including the most recent version 1.2.5. Note that version 1.2.5 is required for Palm OS 5.4 and higher (Tungsten T5 and Treo 650 devices).
